Spotify has expanded its features for mobile users, introducing Playlist Notes and enhancing User Notes. These updates aim to improve user engagement and provide more context for playlists and tracks.

Key Highlights

  • Spotify introduces Playlist Notes for curated playlists in six English-speaking countries.
  • User Notes feature allows personal notes on tracks and podcasts in over 100 regions.
  • Playlist Notes explain song choices and cultural relevance for major playlists.
  • Editor Profiles provide information about playlist curators.
  • User Notes are visible to anyone with access to the shared playlist.

New Playlist Notes Feature

Spotify's global team of playlist editors now use Playlist Notes to explain the reasoning behind song selections. These notes detail why each song appears in a playlist and highlight its cultural relevance. Users can access these notes by selecting the Notes button at the top of major playlists.

Currently, the Playlist Notes feature is available only to users aged 16 and older in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. Spotify has not announced plans to expand this feature to other regions yet.

Users can also learn more about the editors who curate these playlists. By tapping the editor's name in the playlist view, users are directed to the Editor Profile, which provides additional information about the curator.

User Notes for Tracks and Podcasts

Spotify allows users to add personal notes to individual tracks and podcasts. To add a note, users on mobile devices can tap the three dots next to a track and select "Add note" from the menu. The note will then appear under the selected track.

This User Notes feature is available on both Android and iOS devices in over 100 regions worldwide. Unlike Playlist Notes, which are limited to certain countries, User Notes have a much broader reach.

Users can write reminders or thoughts about their favorite tracks or podcasts. This feature is especially useful for jotting down impressions or information about episodes and songs. Notes added by users are visible to anyone with whom the playlist is shared.

Availability and Regional Limitations

While Playlist Notes are currently limited to six English-speaking countries, User Notes are accessible in more than 100 regions. Spotify has not provided a timeline for when Playlist Notes might become available in additional countries.

These features reflect Spotify's ongoing efforts to enhance the listening experience and foster deeper connections between users, playlists, and curators. The company continues to update its mobile platform to provide more interactive and informative tools for its global audience.
