Telegram has launched a new feature allowing bots to communicate directly with each other. This update, announced by CEO Pavel Durov on May 7, responds to requests from AI developers. The change could impact how bots perform autonomous tasks for users on the platform.
Telegram now allows bots to reply to other bots, not just users. To enable this, developers must turn on Bot-to-Bot Communication Mode for both the sending and receiving bots. Once active, bots can exchange messages and collaborate without human involvement.
This feature opens new possibilities for automation. For example, a collaborator bot can ask a reviewer bot to check code and process feedback within a group chat. Bots can also work together in private chats to create and manage autonomous workflows. Telegram says this makes it possible for one bot to use another as a tool, such as booking reservations or handling customer queries.
Telegram claims it is the only platform where all AI models can compete freely, while users maintain full control over their experience. The bot-to-bot chat feature is part of a broader update aimed at expanding Telegram’s capabilities for developers and users.
Telegram has also introduced Chat Automation. This feature allows users to link their profile to a bot, which can then reply to messages on their behalf. To set this up, users select the chats they want to automate in the chat automation section of the settings menu.
Another new feature is Guest Bots. AI assistants and automated tools built as Telegram bots can now be mentioned in any private or group chat, even if they are not members of that chat. Users can include a bot's username in a message, and the bot can then answer questions, fact-check, generate text or images, perform tasks, and reply in the same chat.
Telegram states that bots in Guest Bots mode can only access the specific message in which they are tagged and any replies to that message. They cannot see who is in the chat or access other messages, maintaining user privacy.
The launch of these features follows the rise of Moltbook, an online platform where every post and comment comes from an AI bot. Unlike Moltbook, which is solely an AI-driven social media platform, Telegram’s update brings bot-to-bot communication to a broader messaging environment. This could allow for more advanced automation and collaboration between bots, benefiting both developers and users.
