Samsung is preparing to expand its foldable smartphone lineup with the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a new variant called the Wide Fold. Both devices have reportedly appeared in the company’s One UI 9 software, suggesting that their launch may be imminent. The foldable market continues to grow as major brands like Apple and Google also explore new designs.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to offer several improvements over its predecessor. Reports indicate that Samsung may introduce a “crease-free” display, minimizing the visible fold line. The company is also working on a new hinge mechanism, which could make the device about 0.5mm thinner when folded.
Performance upgrades are likely, with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 rumored to use Samsung’s upcoming Exynos 2600 chipset. This aligns with Samsung’s strategy of using in-house processors for its foldable devices, while reserving Qualcomm chips for the Galaxy S series. The device is also expected to be lighter, potentially weighing around 180g, compared to the previous model’s 188g.
The battery capacity is expected to remain at 4,300mAh, with support for 25W charging. No significant changes are anticipated in this area. The camera setup is likely to stay the same, featuring a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 10-megapixel front camera. Other hardware elements, such as the vibration motor, speakers, and outer display, are also expected to remain largely unchanged.
The newly spotted Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide appears to offer a different design compared to Samsung’s standard foldables. Leaked images suggest a wider and shorter outer display, estimated at around 5.4 inches. This is a departure from the taller cover screens seen on previous models.
Inside, the foldable display is expected to measure about 7.6 inches, which is slightly smaller than the usual 8-inch panels. However, the wider aspect ratio aims to enhance video playback and app usability. The Wide Fold may also feature a dual rear camera setup, unlike the triple-camera system found on earlier Fold models. Exact sensor specifications have not been confirmed yet, but this change could help distinguish the model and possibly reduce its price.
Details about the chipset, battery, and charging for the Wide Fold remain undisclosed. Samsung’s experimentation with new form factors indicates a focus on improving usability and expanding options in the foldable segment.
