Amazon is using artificial intelligence to accelerate hiring and supply chain planning as it prepares for the busy festival season. The company has introduced Connect Talent, a new AI-powered mass hiring software, to help recruit workers efficiently. This move follows Amazon's reduction of about 30,000 corporate jobs since October, some of which were linked to AI-driven efficiencies.
Connect Talent removes much of the traditional human element in hiring by eliminating face-to-face interviews. The AI system can conduct interviews at any time and generate notes for recruiters without human involvement. Amazon reports that candidates will be informed when AI is used in their screening process. The company continues to refine the system to make AI interactions sound more natural and human-like.
Colleen Aubrey, AWS senior vice president of applied AI solutions, stated that each iteration of the software improves the candidate experience. Last year, Amazon hired approximately 250,000 seasonal workers ahead of the holidays. The new system aims to handle similar large-scale hiring needs more efficiently during peak periods.
Amazon announced these developments at an event featuring AWS CEO Matt Garman and executives from OpenAI. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, was expected but did not attend due to a civil lawsuit filed by Elon Musk. During the event, Amazon also introduced its proprietary artificial intelligence called "humorphism." This AI aims to adapt to human work patterns, focusing on making technology more human-centric.
Aubrey explained that the "humorphism" approach seeks to translate human behaviors into AI products. This philosophy comes as the adoption of AI raises concerns about potential job losses. Amazon's goal is to create AI that works the way people do, rather than forcing people to adapt to technology.
In addition to hiring tools, Amazon launched Connect Decisions, a new product for supply chain planning and purchasing. The tool analyzes and compiles data to support decisions in logistics and procurement. Aubrey noted that Amazon's experience managing its warehouse network informed the development of this software.
These AI-driven tools are part of Amazon's broader strategy to optimize operations and respond to seasonal demand. The company continues to invest in artificial intelligence to improve efficiency across multiple business areas.
