Anthropic has introduced Claude Tag, a new feature for its Claude chatbot, aimed at improving workplace collaboration. Claude Tag enables the chatbot to act as a virtual teammate within Slack, participating in conversations and assisting teams beyond just answering questions.
Claude Tag functions as an "always-on" assistant in Slack. Employees can invite the AI into any thread by typing @Claude. Once added, Claude can read ongoing discussions, summarise key points, break down tasks, and help teams progress on projects without needing repeated context.
Unlike previous features, Claude Tag maintains ongoing awareness of conversations. Anthropic states that the AI learns continuously from the channels it can access, building a deeper understanding of team workflows. With the right permissions, Claude can also gather information from other channels across the organisation.
Claude Tag acts as a digital coworker in team chat rooms. It remembers previous discussions and can help new participants catch up quickly. All team members interact with the same Claude identity in a channel, allowing conversations with the AI to continue seamlessly, even if started by someone else.
Claude Tag offers proactive support. It can remind teams about unfinished tasks, highlight important updates from other parts of the company, and flag relevant information for ongoing projects. When assigned a task, the AI breaks it into steps and completes them using the tools and data it has permission to access.
Organisations retain control over what Claude can see and do. System administrators can set permissions for channels, documents, and tools. Different Claude identities can be created for separate departments, ensuring that information does not cross between teams without authorisation.
Claude Tag will first be available in beta for Slack users on Claude Enterprise and Claude Team plans. This launch follows strong demand for Anthropic's AI tools from businesses. The company's growing popularity has increased its valuation to $965 billion, surpassing OpenAI.
Anthropic has also filed confidentially for an initial public offering. The release of Claude Tag highlights the competition among AI companies to attract enterprise customers. Businesses are seeking AI tools to improve collaboration, manage projects, and automate routine tasks.
