Popular singer Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung. She accuses the company of using her image without permission to market its televisions. The complaint states that Samsung placed Lipa’s photograph on its TV packaging in 2024 without her approval.

Key Highlights

  • Dua Lipa filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung for alleged unauthorized image use.
  • Samsung reportedly used Lipa’s photo on TV packaging without her consent in 2024.
  • The lawsuit claims copyright infringement and violation of publicity rights.
  • Social media posts cited show fans believed Lipa endorsed Samsung TVs.

Lawsuit Details and Allegations

The legal filing claims Samsung used the image without informing Dua Lipa or seeking her consent. When Lipa learned about the use, she asked Samsung to stop. According to the lawsuit, Samsung responded dismissively and refused her request.

The complaint, as reported by Variety, states, ‘Ms. Lipa’s face was prominently used for a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge, without consideration, and as to which she had no say, control, or input whatsoever.’ The lawsuit adds that Lipa did not allow and would not have allowed this use.

Lipa’s legal team argues that Samsung benefited by making it appear as if she endorsed the TVs. The singer never agreed to promote the product. The complaint also states that Lipa owns the copyright to the photograph, which was taken backstage at the Austin City Limits Festival in 2024.

Public Reaction and Legal Claims

To support its claims, the lawsuit includes social media posts from fans. Some users believed Dua Lipa was connected to the product. One fan wrote on X, ‘I wasn’t even planning on buying a tv but I saw the box so I decided to get it.’ Another said, ‘I’d get that TV just because Dua Lipa is on it. That’s how obsessed I am. That’s how much I love her.’ A third user commented, ‘Just put a picture of Dua Lipa on it’ if you want to sell something.

The complaint accuses Samsung of copyright infringement and violating California’s right of publicity statute. It also alleges breaches of the federal Lanham Act and trademark violations. The case highlights ongoing concerns about image rights and celebrity endorsements in advertising.
