Google has introduced a new feature called Skills for Gemini on Chrome. This update allows users to save frequently used prompts as Skills, making repetitive tasks faster and more efficient. The feature is designed to help users complete tasks with a single click, improving productivity and saving time.

Key Highlights

  • Google introduces Skills for Gemini on Chrome to save and reuse frequent prompts
  • Over 50 preset Skills available, including product comparisons and recipe calculations
  • Skills feature currently rolling out to US English Chrome users on desktop devices

Gemini Skills Functionality

Skills are saved prompts that users can access through Gemini, Google's AI model integrated into Chrome. Users can create a Skill by typing a prompt in Gemini and saving it. Once saved, the Skill appears in the Gemini menu, located at the top-right corner of Chrome. To use a Skill, users can type a slash or click the plus-sign button to choose from their saved prompts.

Gemini can perform various tasks using Skills. For example, users can compare prices while shopping online or find food recipes. The AI can gather information across different tabs and present it in one place. Before taking certain actions, such as adding events to a calendar or sending emails, Gemini will request user confirmation.

Preset and Customizable Skills

Google offers over 50 preset Skills for users to try. These include calculating protein macros for recipes, generating product specification comparisons, and scanning lengthy documents for key details. Users can also customize these preset Skills to better fit their needs.

The Skills feature is currently rolling out to users with Chrome set to US English. It is available on any desktop device signed into a Google account. This ensures a broad reach for users who rely on Chrome for daily tasks.

Additional Updates and Availability

Google continues to expand Gemini’s capabilities. In India, Gemini now offers free NEET UG mock tests for students. Google DeepMind has also hired a philosopher to work on machine consciousness. Additionally, Claude Opus 4.7 is expected to launch soon, impacting companies like Adobe and Figma.

With the introduction of Skills, Google aims to make Chrome a more powerful tool for both work and personal use. The feature supports a wide range of activities, from shopping to productivity tasks, and is designed to adapt to individual user needs.
