Judge Issues Temporary Restraining Order

US District Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin of the Northern District of California granted a temporary restraining order. This order prevents Paramount Skydance from closing the deal for 14 days. The attorneys general, led by California Attorney General Rob Bonta, filed the request on July 13. They claim the merger would reduce competition and negatively impact consumers.

The judge scheduled a hearing for August 3. At this hearing, the court will consider a preliminary injunction. If granted, the injunction would keep the deal on hold until the end of the trial.

Attorneys General Cite Antitrust Concerns

The attorneys general argue that the merger would "extinguish competition" in Hollywood. They believe it could lead to higher prices, lower quality, and less content for film and television audiences. Their lawsuit claims the transaction violates federal law by threatening to substantially lessen competition.

Paramount Skydance Responds to Lawsuit
