Shivon Zilis’s Background and Career

Shivon Zilis, now 40, was born in Markham, Ontario, to a Hindu Punjabi Indian mother and a White Canadian father. She attended Unionville High School and played hockey at Yale University, graduating in 2008. Zilis began her career at IBM’s cognitive computing division before joining Bloomberg Beta as a founding member. In 2015, Forbes named her to its "30 Under 30" list for venture capital.

Zilis started working with OpenAI in 2016 as an adviser and later served on its nonprofit board until 2023. Around the same time, she became closely involved with Musk, both professionally and personally. From 2017 to 2019, she worked at Tesla as a project director on the Autopilot and chip design team. She later held the role of director of operations and special projects at Neuralink, another Musk-led company.

Personal Connection to Elon Musk

Zilis and Musk share a family together. They had twins, Strider Sekhar and Azure, via IVF in November 2021. Their daughter, Arcadia, was reportedly born in mid-2023, followed by son Seldon Lycurgus in late 2024. In total, Zilis and Musk have four children together.
